Jan. 26 - 3 miles - 14:04 - 2nd - indoors
at Northeastern Univ. - "last mile in 4:40. legs tight and had
slight sideache." [in the middle of a 20 miles day!] Feb. 16 - 12 miles - 58:48 - 2nd - Newark Distance Classic - "...mostly flat race... ...2nd to Cusack - sideache from 1 mile to 7 miles or so." March 15 - 12K(?) - 35:27 - 3rd - International
X-Country - Rabat, Morocco - "...led most of the race but not fast enough at finish. Ran about 7
miles after the race for total miles of 15 today."

2:09:55 - 1st - "Won 79th BAA Marathon in 2:09:55 new PR for
that distance. Total miles run today 26." May 17 - sub 47:00(?) - 15K - 2nd - Natl. 15 kilometer in Alexandria , VA. - "Our club [GBTC] was 3rd - slightly under 47 minutes I believe..." June 14 - 2 miles - 8:58.2 - 3rd - Charleston Track Classic - "Shorter won in 8:45.4." June 15 - 3 miles - 13:56 - 1st - New England AAU - "meet record time" June 24 - 31.6K - 1:45:03 - 1st - 5th San Juan 450 - "Became sick from heat prostration el vomit & el diareah! but a nice huge trophy to sell! & a case of good rum... total miles today 20." July 13 - 6 miles - 28:43 - 1st - "Ran about 12 miles at OK pace over easy hills
course at 12 noon. Won 6 mile Portland RR at 5:00 PM over flat course in
28:43..." August 17 - 7+ miles - 33:39 - 2nd - Falmouth Road Race - "Good day to run - ran a hard race but alas lost (33:39 to 33:24) to Frank Shorter over 7 mile easy hills road race in Falmouth. Ran easy another 7 miles back to start of race..." 1. Frank Shorter Florida TC 33:24 CR August 30 - DNF at Amsterdam Marathon - "Ran poorly in 15th [???????] Marathon in Holland - arrived 4:30 and after no sleep for 40 hours slept 1 nite and ran race next day. had a cold & very fatigued & lite headed - OK for 20-25 kilometers then a sideache and right (usual!!) hamstring cramped so I couldn't continue. R. Hill won in 2:15:59... " Sept. 20 - 10 miles - 48:17 - 1st place tie - Lynchburg 10 Mile RR - "Tied with Frank Shorter and was awarded 1st (meaningless) in 48:17 in Lynchburg 10 mile run - a total surprise! Thought I was in poor shape! Ran 3 miles immediately following the race and ran 8 miles with John Vitale at 3:00 PM at slow pace on hilly course..." Sept. 28 - 11.5 miles - 55:32 - 3rd - Springbank Road Race [Canada] - " Pooped!" Oct. 5 - 1/2 Marathon - 65:20 (?) - 1st - "...over 13 mile course in Lowell, Mass. plus 2 miles jog before and after the race plus a 5 mile easy run (2 hills) at home for a total of 22 miles today. Race OK except tight in the right hamstring." Oct. 26 - 20K - 60:24(PR) - 2nd - Natl. Championship - "but only good for 2nd place at Natl. 20 Kilometer Championship in Gardner, Mass. Weather was good - the course hilly! Jogged 2 miles in the AM for a total of 15 miles today, Got outkicked - legs achey." Nov. 11 - 5 miles - 23:06 - 1st - Quincy Road Race "... flat course - then ran on and off for 6 more miles over flat course . Ran 9 miles in PM over flat course at slow pace - calves really sore." Nov. 27 - 4.6 miles - [Time Unknown] - Manchester RR - "Ran in place in early AM for 40+ mins. then ran 4 1/2 mi. Manchester R. Race course backwards, ran the race, and then repeated the course for a total of near 18 miles today."
Dec. 7 - Fukuoka Marathon [Japan] - 2:11:26.4 - 3rd
"Drank only 2 or 3 gulps of water or ERG so right hamstring
tightened badly with 5 miles to go." |
